INTERVIEW 4
“Leading the best undergraduate Hall Chairperson for Idia Hall.”
By Taofeekat Adigun.
Leading the best female undergraduate hall of residence in University of Ibadan is no easy feat (insert thunderous applause).
Queen Idia Press had a fun chit-chat with the Hall Chairperson of Queen Idia Hall. She talked about leading Idia, subsequent programs, her hobbies and lots more. Enjoy!!!
QIP; Let's meet you, Queen.
Dabira; I am Osuolale Omowunmi Damilola Dabira. A 400-level student of the department of Theatre Arts, University of Ibadan. I'm a playwright, and creative writer. The former President of Association of Theatre Arts students, University of Ibadan and I'm currently the elected Queen Idia Hall Chairperson.
QIP; From one post to another, How has it been leading Idia Hall?
Dabira; Honestly, It's been a learning curve. Having held a previous position of leadership, I came to understand that leadership is a position of sacrifice in which you've got to be willing to show the people you're leading the way to go and not just tell them.
QIP; What motivates you to lead?
Dabira; My different experience of leadership. I've been a student leader back in the days of secondary school. I've also been class representatives and a sports director at different levels.
QIP; Now that the semester is physical, what should Idiate expect, especially since we have seen bonfires and other activities from other halls of residence.
Dabira; Let's keep our fingers crossed and watch the space.
QIP; Madam give us hint.
Dabira; The hall week is coming up by God's grace plus other amazing programs.
QIP; During press night, you mentioned in your manifesto, that you would share Idia constitution to all Idiates. Where is our constitution?
Dabira; Yes, I did, but we are all aware of the reduction in basic dues. Due to this reason, we cannot provide hard copies of the constitution , only the soft copy. I have shared the soft copy to all online platforms for Idiates for easy access.
QIP; Good!! What is the one thing you have learnt while leading Idia
Dabira; I learnt more on how effective self-management leads to leading people well. Simply put, the capabilities to manage yourself determines how well you will manage who you are leading.
QIP; With the increase in COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, what should Idiates be doing to stay safe?
Dabira; Honestly, there has been neglect to adhere to Mask Up by Idiates. I'm imploring them to mask up (there are free nose masks distributed at the porters lodge), observing COVID-19 protocols by always washing hands at the newly erected wash hand basins and the use of hand sanitizers in order to protect themselves and loved ones.
QIP; What's your advice to fellow Idiates?
Dabira; My advice to fellow Idiates is to continue observing COVID-19 protocols, be kind, selfless, respectful, and maintain good relationships with fellow Idiates.
QIP; Let's leave Idia alone and delve into personal stuff. What do you enjoy doing?
Dabira; I enjoy acting, obviously I'm a theatre art student. I enjoy cooking and baking as well.
QIP; Is it safe to say Idiates can come to your room to eat and feast anytime?
Dabira; LMAO, Of course but with money.
QIP; have you featured in any movie?
Dabira; I take part more in stage plays, " oniyan, yungba yungba and the dance contest, death of the King horseman and others" I also did an extra role in a Nollywood series titled "Stranger".
QIP; Amazing Feat! So, Are You A Feminist?
Dabira; I'm not a feminist but I believe in equity of gender, and everyone should be given equal opportunity to excel.
QIP; Interesting point of view! Finally, tell us one perception people have of you and which isn't true.
Dabira; Due to my cheerful personality, people sometimes erroneously believe that I'm too playful and unserious, which isn't true.
QIP; Thank you for the fun chit-chat. QIP wishes you a blissful tenure!!
