The third week into the university of Ibadan’s first semester for the 2020/2021 session and most students have not attended any lectures. The doubt in the credibility of the system UI has adopted increases by the second in the minds of students daily.

The mass relocation by the students has become a very dangerous venture as the Fulani herdsmen clash is still ongoing and anybody can get robbed, kidnapped or killed on a journey to Ibadan. There also seems to be no new security measures put in place so the government is basically telling residents of southwestern states to travel at their own risk. It is best to be watchful at all times and be mindful of the environment you plan on getting accommodation in.

Despite the readiness, the students have shown towards restarting lectures no matter what, the school’s management has failed to carry students along with whatever is causing the delay in the resumption of lectures. The results for the 2018/2019 session is also yet to be released. The situation that the university is in, currently shows that the school’s management is underprepared to start a new session, virtual or no.

The school has notified us of teaching its teachers how to use software and apps to teach virtually but the school is yet to do that for students and we are to resume on the 8th of March. Is the school assuming that the students already know how to use the system which they just adopted?

This is officially the third week of the first semester of the 2020/2021 session and lectures are still yet to start for most departments. This delay may not be considered at the end of the semester when it is time for examinations as lecturers are known for carrying out their business, as usual, irrespective of the fact that they might have skipped some weeks in the course outline when it comes to setting questions for examinations.

Textbooks, YouTube videos look like the only way forward for UI students. Happy resumption 2.0.
